In our last email, I incorrectly identified a recently deceased member as John Falbo. The correct first name is Jim. My apologies to Jim’s family and those of you who could not identify him because of my error. The balance of the report is accurate.
The Dink Tournament is not filling as early as we had hoped. Please go to the Club Website and register today. Once on the website, go to “Our Club”, “About Our Club”, and scroll to “Sign up Links”.
Don’t forget the last day to register for the Farewell Dinner is Tuesday, March 19! More details on the Website.

The Spring Slam at Sun City takes place this weekend at Marinette. All 20 courts have been allocated for the tournament. While there may be a few available at any given time, you should plan your open play at Mountain View. Come out and cheer for your friends and enjoy some really good pickleball!
The Club Tournament was a huge success in spite of a computer glitch. The following is from Richard Heyward: First, I had 4 people who signed up and did not show up, no advance notification from any of them. Second, Mr. XYZ walked off and left his group short a person before the end. No explanation. Having had my complaints raised, I would like to publicly thank, through our webpage, the following. Linda Skaggs Dianna Graham Jeff Skaggs. Phil Arinno After sorting the players following the no shows, our printer went on strike and refused to print anything. Linda hand wrote over 500 names on score sheets to start us moving. Dianna kept the sheets under control during our frantic effort to get games moving and Jeff was an outstanding announcer. Phil put in effort beforehand and sorted the prizes. Thanks again to all the volunteers and participants. The “No Shows” and the person who left his group stranded will be ineligible to participate in our Dink Tournament on March 25th.
Ryan is going to run Limited Mobility Pickleball until the end of April. The last organized session will be April 26th. Hopefully many of the participants will get together on their own through the summer. LMP will be RESCHEDULED due to the Slam to Tuesday at 10 for this week only.
Sign up for the Dink Tournament March 25 is now available on line. Sign up as a team, with one person doing the registering and paying for both. Since most courts will be in use for the tournament, Paddle Play and the Ladder will be cancelled on that date.
As mentioned in earlier emails, “no shows” will not be eligible for the next Club event. There is a tremendous amount of work put into each of our events, and having to reshuffle the entire schedule can be a major undertaking. The courtesy of a phone call a day in advance is all that’s asked if you must cancel.
Club shirts have arrived. Candy Laube will be at Marinette tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10:00 for pick up. Checks should be payable to Sun City Pickleball Club.
The Club Tournament scheduled for this Friday has been POSTPONED to next Friday, March 1. Times remain the same. If you cannot play due to the change, please let Richard or Barbara Heywood know immediately!

There will be no fee to sign up for this event, as the Club will provide the meal. HOWEVER, if you sign up and don’t show up you will be ineligible to participate in the next Club Event! The major reason for fees being collected in the past has been to assure attendance. If this works, fees will be eliminated from most future events.
Following on March 25 is the Club Dink Tournament. Tentative start time is 11 AM. Lunch will be provided, and there will be no entry fee. Again, if you sign up and don’t show up, you will be ineligible for the next event. Sign up will be available soon.

This morning’s Rodeo was, as anticipated, a tremendous success! A little nippy in the pavilion, but it warmed up beautifully for lunch on the patio! Hope all participants learned a bit about the strengths and weaknesses of their game – if there are any weaknesses! Thank you to Lis Smoot for organizing this fun event, and thanks to all the volunteers, and Pat Klepadlo for organizing them. Events of this nature just don’t happen without them.

The courts are extremely crowded at this time of year. Lots of patience and good manners are high priorities. We have scheduled play on many of our courts much of the time, and that may limit the courts available for open play. We all might consider altering our play times accordingly. Crowded or not, however, there is no excuse for screaming, bullying and some of the other behaviors we have seen over the last few weeks. If a group is coming on to a court you’re playing on, be prepared to exit the court at or before the time the new group is scheduled. If your group is scheduled on a court, there is no reason for you to expect to get on that court early unless it’s empty. During open play, we need to come all the way off the court at the end of each game, not just look out and decide it’s OK to stay! It’s not! If no one arrives promptly to use the court you may certainly go right back on. If you are waiting to play you need to be ready to take a court when it becomes available! Basically, let’s all behave like the mature adults we think we are and there will be no more issues!
