Good evening … again some reminders for upcoming activities. But first I want to remind all of our club members to WEAR YOUR BADGE during club time and at any club event. Continue reading →
Good evening club members. The club has several events occurring in the next few weeks. Please check our website to keep up-to-date with all of our activities. Remember that we always use SignUp Genius to register for any of the annual events and our lessons.
Upcoming Club Events:
Introductory to Pickleball Instructions … Bill and Jan Booth have volunteered to provide the free introductory lessons for anyone new to Pickleball. Lessons are currently being offered on most Tuesdays at 10:00a.m. Players are introduced to the fundamentals of the game including scoring, rules, court orientation and execution. Registration will be accepted through our website at SunCityPickleballClub.org.
MountainView Fun Day … Come and play pickleball with club members at MountainView courts on Thursday, September 28 from 4-7pm. This is just a social event with pick-up games for all levels of play. The club will provide ice and water. Please feel free to bring a snack to share.
General Membership Meeting … Our next club meeting is Friday, October 6 at the Marinette Auditorium from 4-5pm. We will discuss old and new business as well as all of our upcoming events. We have several items that specifically need approval before moving forward … additional screens in the Pavilion and a storage shed at Marinette. We are also purchasing portable fans and an outdoor speaker system to be used during tournament play. We need input from our membership so please plan to attend.
Rodeo Event … Our annual rodeo/skills event will be held on Friday, October 20th at Marinette courts from 3-7 pm. This is open to everyone and each event will be skill level adjusted. This is a good opportunity to test your current skill level against other club members and helps determine which skills need more practice and drills for improvement. Registration will be available through our web page using SignUp Genius. There will be a minimal fee of $2 and a small meal will be provided at the conclusion of the event.
Fall Shootout Tournament … This tourney is pretty full so now our club is responsible to volunteer to help our Director, Barry Woods, make it a huge success. Dave Breault has begun to gather volunteers for several committees needed. Please check in the Marinette Pavilion for the signup sheets or contact Dave or Barry to be included in these groups.
Hope to see all of you soon … I’ll be in town for a few days in October and I’ll meet you at the courts.
Hello Pickleballers. It’s been awhile since I’ve contacted the group. I have been back in Illinois and extremely busy this summer. Not much time for Pickleball in Illinois so I definitely miss my Arizona friends and Pickleball at our facility in Sun City. I’ve heard that we continue to have several members playing even with the extreme heat in Arizona.
I need to thank Dave Breault, our current Vice-President, for keeping things running smoothly and keeping in touch with our other officers and members that play at Marinette and MountainView during the summer. A big concern right now is selecting a new ball to use at the next tourney and for the daily use by our members. Thanks to all of you that have provided your input to Dave and Barry Woods, the Shootout Director.
Fall Shootout .. The Shootout is scheduled for October 31 – November 2, 2017. It’s that time where the club needs to provide chairpersons for several committees to make this tournament run well. After we have 5 or 6 committees established, then we’ll need about 100 volunteers to fill 2 hr time slots for each committee. The committees are listed below. Think about each and please step up and take on a task for our club. Our officers and the tourney director will help answer any questions. Continue reading →
Dink Tourney: On behalf of our Pickleball club, here’s a BIG THANK YOU to the dink tourney committee: Julie Kimball, Lynn Mysel, Michelle Orton, and Pat Sterba. These ladies organized the brackets for both flights and planned the food for our 2nd annual event. It proved to be a wonderful day … long, but a great time had by all. Special thanks to Ann Clark for the cutest awards ever … so very creative!! Flight 1 winners were: Mark Larson – Alan Kramer, Gold; Barb and Jim Blaser, Silver; Paula Beaty – Dave Breault, Bronze. Flight 2 winners were: Joe Gilfillan – Mike Kapp, Gold; Jane Powell – Kim Trew, Silver; Penny and Jim Janecky, Bronze. Allen Gilson and Ed Everson took several pictures of this event and the album with flight winners and action shots will be posted on our website in the next few weeks. Continue reading →

Spring Slam: The Spring Slam held March 10-12th at our Marinette Center went pretty well. Thank you to our tournament director, Glenn Jones, for a job well done and thank you to all of our club volunteers. Many planning hours go into making a tournament successful; this can’t be accomplished without a dedicated director and club volunteers who step up to work our tournaments. If anyone has comments to help our club improve the tournament process, please do not hesitate to send any board member your comments.
Club members who medaled at the Spring Slam are:

4.5 70+ Richard Juarez, Gold
4.0 70+ Dave Sinclair – Ed Millett, Gold

Dink Tourney: The Dink tourney is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28th starting at 8:00 a.m. Grab your favorite dink partner and get signed up on our web page. The fee is $5 per team and you must sign up with a partner. This event is open for all ratings … players will be divided into different brackets … for 2.0 to3.0 and 3.5 and up. Please pay your fee to a board member or drop a check in the mailbox at Marinette. Remember, this is a dink only event. No slams. All balls must be in the kitchen, starting with the serve and continuing until a player hits it out of the kitchen, out-of-bounds, or into the net. Seems simple right. Well, come and try this basic skill challenge. This will be a double-elimination event. If you have any questions, just ask a board member or send us an email. Flyers have been posted at each facility.
General Meeting: Our next general meeting will be on Tuesday, March 21 starting at 4:00 p,m. at the Marinette Auditorium.
Court Wash: Next court wash is Sunday, April 2 at Marinette.
Simonne McGowan/Carol Nelson – Kathy Masters/Maria Dagis
Slam Tourney Help Needed:
We need several additional volunteers at the tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Please come and help if you’re available over the weekend.
… Specifically, we need line judges for the Gold Medal matches. On Saturday, these matches should start around 1pm… then again at 3pm and the last ones should occur around 5pm. On Sunday, we’ll need line judges for the women’s matches at about 12:30pm, plus between 1-3pm and then again 3-6pm.
… Food table is in desperate need of someone for setup around 7am. We need coffee and Gatorade made plus oranges and bananas cut up. So if any our lady pickleballers are available, please come and help us get ready early both Saturday and Sunday morning.
… We also need someone to post scores … can do 2 hr shifts. Score posting is a pretty easy job but you must understand brackets and how the winner and loser brackets are handled. Sheets are printed for each match and then we just have to post winners and the scores and then post where the loser goes in the “opportunity” bracket. So please come and help if you’re comfortable posting scores.
Reminder for Checking into Marinette in the next few weeks: Spring break is starting so many residents will have extra visitors during the next few weeks. So please be patient when waiting for the Marinette monitors to check in visitors. Please stay in line and wait your turn. The monitors can only check in one person at a time and the Pickleball Club players do NOT get to cut in line.
T-Shirts: Club t-shirts can be picked up at the club table during the tournament. We still have several that were ordered that need to be paid for or we’ll sell these to other members don’t make arrangements to get them. We also have a few extra shirts to sell. They are $13.50 and $14.50/each depending on the size.
See you at the tourney …
