A Lot is Happening
- Club Shirts: On sale until February 1st. If we reach 150 ordered, we get a lower cost to each person… We can do it, right? It is best to order online or contact Daryl Wimer at: 623-680-2223. Let’s show off our colors/spirit at the Spring Slam Tournament with our Club Shirts
- Club Survey: A “Survey” email was sent out on Sunday to gain member feedback. It is due by this Friday, Jan. 19th, not the original date of 21st.
- Volunteers: In the city of volunteers, we need more volunteers for the SSIPA tournament on Jan. 30, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. Particularly need “Line Judges” (don’t need to be USAPA approved, just good eyes) and parking guides. Please see the sign-up forms at both court locations or on the website.
- SSIPA Tournament Needs Players: Need 2.5 players/teams to sign up to make sure there are enough in this category to prevent forcing a combination of 3.0 and 2.5’s. Consider this “your turn”. Only 3 days left to sign up online at: https://www.secure.pickleballtournaments.com/welcome.pl?tid=1586
- 2018 Membership Renewal: Grace period ends on January 31st. We want new members and returnees. Club growth helps us increase activities for members. You can sign up online or drop an application and check in the boxes at either court location.
- Friday Marinette Social: For anyone that wants to play on social basis (doesn’t matter your skill level, let’s mix it up). Followed by dinner (you bring your own) in the Auditorium this Friday (alternating Friday’s in Auditorium and then eating out other Friday). Starts at 5pm
- Member Meeting Changed: Due to a scheduling conflict, RCSC changed us to Friday, January 26th at Marinette from 1pm-2:30pm. We are discussing several club matters of recent interest. All members are welcome.
Lastly, Wednesday was a nice day for friendly play. We had a good turnout for Round Robin and potential new members got to view some demonstration play at Discover Sun City day. Thanks to Pat Sterba, Pat Klepadlo and others that dropped in to assist at our table and portable net set up.
It’s Fun, Fun, Fun with the Pickleball Club.

Color Team Tournament is Tuesday, December 12th starting promptly at 3:00 p.m. with team pictures. A potluck dinner around 6:00 p.m. will follow the 5 rounds of play. Please look below to see which team you are on so that you can wear a shirt matching your team color and cheer on your fellow teammates. Don’t forget that each player must bring a covered dish to share with all 88 players. We will try to eat by 6:00 p.m. The dining room will be set up prior to our first round of play so you can drop your food off in the room. There are outlets and a refrigerator if needed.
We’ve used all of the subs we had on our list, so please show up to play and avoid an empty slot.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hello Sun City Pickleball Club Members: I have arrived back in Sun City for the winter. I am so happy to be back and can’t wait to see everyone at the courts. I will be at Marinette every morning for the remainder of the week and maybe even get in some evening play. Some of you may have to introduce yourself again because I’m old and won’t remember everyone’s names… but that’s why we all wear name badges .. right?!
Christmas Party … Final chance to buy Christmas party tickets is this Wednesday morning at Marinette. No tickets will be available at the door on Saturday. Party is set for Saturday, December 2nd and ticket prices are $10 for members and $20 for guests. The club will be collecting for a local food drive so please bring a non-perishable item to the party. We will need help setting up the Bell Center on Saturday so if you can help, please stop by between 1 and 1:30 p.m. to decorate the hall.
Color Team Tourney … Our annual fun team tourney is Tuesday, December 12th from 3-7 p.m. with a potluck in the Marinette auditorium. The event is completely filled at this time with a few extras in case we need a few subs. We could also use a few volunteers to help set up the food in the auditorium as people drop it off for the potluck. Registration is only $2 and must be paid by next Monday, December 4th to hold your spot. Please pay Kathy Masters, Dave Breault, or Marcia Gregory. Everyone will receive an email by Friday, December 8th to let each player know which team they will represent so they can make sure that they have the correct shirt color to wear for the event.
Women’s Club Team Play … I had some incorrect dates for this team play. Please review these dates again. Changes to the original email are in bold … the website has been corrected.
Start: Wednesday, January 10th
Ending: Wednesday, March 14th
Time: 12:30-2:00, every Wednesday
Sign up on club website.
Format: Players will be rated if not already rated. Must rate at least 2.5 and above. Teams will be assigned so that teams are as equal as possible. Each team will elect a captain that will decide the lineup for each match. Each week the total points that each team receives will be added to the total. At the end of play the team with the most point will be the winner. There will be a first half and a second-half schedule.
Rating dates: Saturday, December 30th or Thursday, January 4th. You must attend one of the dates to be rated. Location will be Mountain View courts at 11:00 a.m.
Team meeting: You must attend the team assignment meeting on Saturday, January 6th to be assigned a team and elect a team captain. Location is Mountain View at 11:00 a.m.
If you have question email Phil Arinno.
Court Wash: The monthly court wash is Sunday, December 3rd so the courts will be closed for cleaning.
See everyone very soon,
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Hope this holiday blesses each of you and provides you the time to spend the day with friends and family.

Color Team Tourney … Our annual fun team tourney is Tuesday, December 12th from 3-7 p.m. with a potluck in the Marinette auditorium. All of the information is posted on our webpage and signups are handled on the webpage through SignUp Genius. Registration is only $2. Here’s some basic information about this event…. Please read this and then get registered as soon as possible.
This event is not really a tournament. This is more like a “ladder” event limited to the first 88 entries. Each entrant will be placed on one of four teams… each team will wear a specific color. Similar to the ladder, all games will played against players of similar ability but they will be on one of the other 3 teams. For example, Marcia on the red team will play with Pat from the blue team and play against John from the white team who is playing with George on the gray team. So you will want to cheer for players wearing your “team color”.
Each player will play only 5 games … 13 min each … in the 2 ½ hrs of play time. The first 44 players will be assigned a court for game 1 while the other 44 cheer for their teammates. Then the next 44 players go onto the courts. Players rotate this way until all players have completed their 5 games.
After all games have been played, the points will be captured for each team and the winning “team of 22 players” will be announced. So please understand that we need lots of players of all levels to even out the teams.
Christmas Party … Just a reminder that the Christmas party tickets are still on sale from any board member. The party is Saturday, December 2nd starting at 4:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased during the Monday and Friday ladders. Ticket prices are $10 for members and $20 for any guests. Remember that we are also collecting non-perishable items for the food bank during the Christmas party…. So bring those items on December 2nd.
SSIPA Tourney at Marinette … Our club will be sponsoring another tournament at our facility on January 30 – February 1. Signups for this tourney will begin on December 1. All members from the Sun City Pickleball Club will receive a $10 discount when registering. The tourney is for players at least 60 years old. There will be events for levels from 2.5 – 5.0 so look on pickleballtournaments.com to find this event, find a partner, and remember to register starting December 1 [edit: Dec, 4, 4:00pm].
See you soon,
