Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on July 25, 2022 by Bill BoothJuly 26, 2022

Hello, Sun City, Pickleball Club.

Lynda Skaggs has made arrangements for a clinic to come to the Marinette. Follows is a description of the clinic.
Patrice Ayala, professor from Midwestern University, a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Geriatric Physical Therapy will be coming to the Marinette pickleball courts along with several of her students to teach a class on what to-do to avoid a fall (fall risk) and then a little bit about the “best” way to fall.
Best way to fall is part of their “Senior Athlete Fitness Exam” (SAFE for short) and several little stations; taking vitals, testing walking speed, (which is highly correlated to fall risk), grip strength, shoulder and ankle flexibility, balance on even and uneven surfaces with eyes open and closed.
If you’d like to attend this FREE educational class, please use sign up on Sign up Genius.
Hopefully this class will be offered again this winter.

Our annual Fall Tournament “Pickleball Round Up” is open for registration. Our members get a $10 discount on their entry fee. Free lunch for all players. This is a wonderful tournament to get started in your tournament career, it’s open to levels 2.5 to 5.0. Go to https://www.pickleballtournaments.com/ to register. Lynda Skaggs is available if you need assistance.

The committee that was formed to oversee/help with design and construction of the courts coming to the Lakeview met recently. The committee did some brainstorming and we have passed on a list of needs and wants to the RCSC. I’d like to thank the club members who stepped up to be on the committee. Jeff Skaggs, Bill Booth, Dave Breault, Sue Bryant, Mike Lasker, Dave Parenteau, Marcia Gregory, Rachel Trojanovich and myself. We’ll keep you posted as we get information.

We have new windscreens on the Union Hills side of the courts.15 and 16 and 19 and 20. Coming in November will be the resurfacing of all the courts at the Marinette. Schedule of that project with be forth coming.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Happy Hitting.

Hoping to see a lot of our new members take part in this tournament!

Odds and Ends

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on March 13, 2022 by Bill BoothMarch 13, 2022

80 degrees today. Yahoo!

The Desert Frogs vs Snowbirds was a great club event. Lots of fun and laughter and just a little competitive juice thrown in. A huge thanks to Marcia Gregory for being the tournament director. Marcia also had some great helpers. Thanks to Winston, Shirley, Ros, Jane and Jeff. The Snowbirds “won” the event, but getting our club together was the important thing.

Thanks to Deb Lantzy and her helpers for setting up and organizing the food for the Farewell Dinner. Again, a fun time was had by one and all.

Thanks to Evelyn Larson for organizing a round robin at the Mountain View to accommodate our club members who were not able to get signed up for the Frogs vs Snowbirds.

Ilja Gregor would like to thank all who donated paddles to his son’s PE class. Ilja was able to send off 30 paddles to his son due to your generosity

I got an interesting email from an Ernesto Velazquez a founder and tournament director of a pickleball club and tournament in Spain. He is having two PB tournaments in Spain, One in June and one July. He is to be sending me more information about promotional packs to go to Spain for these events. If you want to go to Spain to play some PB let me know and I’ll pass on info as I get it.

With the warmer weather approaching, please if you are the last players on the courts at the Marinette or Mt. View pick up the balls and put them into a cooler. Thanks.

Membership meeting on Tuesday, March 15th, at 5 pm at Mt. View auditorium.

All for now, I’m sure someone will remind me tomorrow of something I left out of the email.

See you all on Tuesday,
Dan H.

Thank You

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on March 12, 2022 by Bill BoothMarch 12, 2022

A BIG “Thank You” to our volunteers for the recent Sun City Spring Slam – it couldn’t happen without all of you! A special thanks to the chairpersons for the largest committees: Mo and Steve McClean, Karen Madison, Deb Lantzy, Donna Holick and Charlotte Peters. President Dan Haberman sweated a bit before receiving our Pickleball allotment but his finger-crossing worked, and we got the balls one day before the tournament started. Jeff Skaggs suffered an injury, also the day prior to play, but his bad luck to not be able to play was good luck for us as he and Lynda were there every day doing much of the work they’ve done previously when serving as Tournament Directors. Lynda was instrumental in re-working our club logo to fit on the medals, which were very well received by the players. Donna Holick was equally called upon often for advice and direction. Treasurer Patty Evans was there every day to pay the referees and other incidental bills. The award for being the greatest helper for set-up and take-down goes to Frank Concotelli – this year, and every year as he is always there to help the process.

So another very successful tournament is in the books for the Sun City Pickleball Club. Mark your calendars, loosely, for a date in October for the Roundup, and prepare to volunteer once more as tournaments cannot happen without your help!

Spring Slam

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on March 2, 2022 by Bill BoothMarch 2, 2022

Good Afternoon

The Spring Slam begins this Friday the 4th, Good luck to all Sun City players who will be participating in the tournament.
Parking: During the tournament Sun City Pickleball Club players and volunteers are asked to park on the street just to the north of the Marinette and courts 1-4. Please be courteous to the people living in the houses on that block and avoid things such as parking in front of driveways.
Still in need of some first aid volunteers.

Thanks to Tom Jeffers for conducting a line judge clinic on Tuesday. A total of 21 club members participated in the clinic. Also, a thank you to Kevin Pates, Steve McClean for helping Tom with the clinic and Elaine Guest, a certified referee who spoke to the clinic participants from a referee perspective to line judging.

Snowbirds. Remember you are to bring a side dish to share at the Farewell Dinner on March 12th. Dinner is from 6-8 at Bell Center.

Lastly, some of our members have had various forms of media hacked recently. Especially with emails, if you receive an email from one of our club members asking you to send them gift cards and/or cash, it’s probably a SCAM. Not only don’t fall for it, don’t even open such emails because that causes problems also.

Enjoy the warm weather,
Dan H.

Volunteer Help

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on February 27, 2022 by Bill BoothFebruary 27, 2022

Good Afternoon

The Spring Slam is quickly approaching. The Slam begins on this Friday the 4th and runs through Sunday the 6th. All Marinette courts will be used for this tournament. The Mt. View courts will be the only available courts for open play on the tournament days.
The tournament is still in need of a few volunteers! There are openings to help out at the food table, door monitor and first aid. You can sign-up to volunteer on our web page. If available on any of the tournament days, just show up and ask if there is some way you can help out.

Shirts and hats with club logo are still available to purchase on the club web page.

Desert Frogs vs Snowbirds tournament is on March 12th. Farewell dinner to follow at Bell Center. All slots for tournament are full, but still spaces available for dinner.

All for now, happy hitting,

Fast

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on February 21, 2022 by Bill BoothFebruary 21, 2022

WOW! I think the Desert Frogs vs Snowbird tournament set a record for the quickest sign-up for a club event ever? Still spots open for the Farewell Dinner.

Knowing that not everyone who wanted to play in the Frogs vs Snowbird tournament was able to get in, here is another option for you on March 12th. Evelyn Larson has offered to run a Round Robin at the Mt. View courts on March 12th starting at 3 pm. No sign-up needed just show up before 3 pm at the Mt. View courts.

Got an unused paddle laying around? Ilja Gregor has a son who going to be teaching Pickleball in his physical education class. His budget does not have sufficient funds to purchase enough paddles for the class. If you have an extra paddle you can spare bring it to the courts and give it to Ilja or myself.

Hearing rumors we are in for a weather change on Wednesday.

All for now,
Dan H..
