Congratulations go out to all our club members who played at the 1st Annual Wickenburg Ranch Tournament this past weekend. The tournament was well attended by not only our club players, but also many club members who made the trip to Wickenburg to cheer on our players in very competitive matches.
Jane Powell and Susann Johnson received a bronze medal in women’s 4.0 level
Diane and Doug Hill took silver in mixed doubles 3.0 level
Doug Hill and Dale Darling won silver in men’s 3.0 level
Donna Holick and Jan Hodgson took away the gold medal in women’s 3.5 competition
Sorry for the delay: MailChimp has been winning the battle for awhile!
Thanks to all who came to our Membership Meeting Tuesday! While aware it was an inopportune time for many, we felt it important to schedule a meeting at Fairway and that was the only time slot available anywhere within our requests. Although the discussion got a bit contentious at times, many good points were made, and it appeared most realized the Scheduling Committee and Board are doing everything possible to be fair to all members. We will continue to address your concerns as fairly as possible. The paperwork is ready to be submitted for approval of the purchases discussed, and we hope to hear something soon. The Minutes are now available on the Website and will be posted to the bulletin boards soon.
Thanks to all who took a few moments to share their thoughts on the Dink Tournament which took place Monday. Hopefully some adjustments can be made that will draw more participants next time.
Our next Club event is a Fun Day at 4PM on Thursday, April 11, at Mountain View. Bring your paddle, a snack to share and your beverage of choice! The Club will provide plates, napkins and cups. This is a great opportunity to meet, and renew friendships with, some members you haven’t met or rarely see.
The Farewell Dinner Friday evening was a great success! Thank you to all who attended – you are what makes these functions work! And Thank You once again to PK and her volunteers, this time especially Tom Jeffers and Steve McClean!
No report yet on the Dink Tournament, but past efforts say Phil Arinno again did a great job on it. Thank you Phil! This was, however, an event that was very poorly attended. We need your feedback. If you did play, would you like to see this event again? And if you did not, why not? Is it just a dead event that will never interest you? Bad day and/or time? Didn’t like the format? Something else? Please respond to this email with your thoughts on this subject, or email Phil or me directly.
As most of you know by now, Ed Millett has had to resign as our President for health reasons. He will be sorely missed, especially by those of us who try to take up the slack. As a result of Ed’s resignation, I have moved in to the office of President and Tom Jeffers has agreed to fill the office of Vice President for the balance of the year. Thanks for all your work Ed! And thank you for stepping up to help out Tom!
The Nominating Committee is set, and it met for the first time this afternoon. The members are: Nancy LeRoy-Mott, Jerry Raisanen and Karen Tolliver. They will put together the best slate of officers possible and present them to us at our October 21 meeting. If you are interested in filling one of our Officer Positions contact one of these members as soon as possible.
If you are interested in participating in the Club Dink tournament, you need to sign up NOW!
Registration is available on our website.
The next Club Meeting is this coming Tuesday at noon at FAIRWAY. Please make every effort to be there! The Agenda, as of now, for the meeting follows. Please save or print it – there will not be copies available at the meeting.

The Dink Tournament will be Monday at Marinette. Registration has been disappointingly slow. The Men’s brackets will be combined into one, as will the Women’s. This is a really fun event and is a great equalizer for many of us! Power is of no advantage in this event; finesse and patience are! Check out the rest of the info on our website and sign up today!
Our final Membership Meeting of the season will be Tuesday, March 26, at noon at Fairway. Please make every effort to attend! There is a lot to be discussed and voted on! The Minutes of our January Meeting are posted on line and at both PB facilities. Please read them in advance; they will not be read at the meeting.
In our last email, I incorrectly identified a recently deceased member as John Falbo. The correct first name is Jim. My apologies to Jim’s family and those of you who could not identify him because of my error. The balance of the report is accurate.
The Dink Tournament is not filling as early as we had hoped. Please go to the Club Website and register today. Once on the website, go to “Our Club”, “About Our Club”, and scroll to “Sign up Links”.
Don’t forget the last day to register for the Farewell Dinner is Tuesday, March 19! More details on the Website.
A beautiful week coming up for Pickleball! Get on out there!
Our DesertFrogs/SnowBirds Farewell dinner will take place Friday, March 22 at 6PM at Marinette. You must register for this event on the Club Website by March 19 if you wish to attend. Check the website for more details.
Registration for the Dink Tournament on March 25 is also available on the website. This tournament has always been a fun tournament for all involved, but registration is running very slowly this year. Check it out and get signed up today!
Our next Club Membership Meeting is coming up March 26 at Noon at Fairway. You really don’t want to miss this meeting! The minutes from our last meeting are posted online and at both play locations. Please read them prior to this meeting. The date posted here is the correct date.
Longtime Club Member John Falbo passed away recently. His family is planning a Celebration of Life at his home (10044 W Palmer Dr) at 1PM on March 22. All are invited.
Our Spring Slam concluded yesterday after three days of beautiful weather (OK, it was a bit windy Friday) and great play. A huge THANK YOU to Jeff and Lynda Skaggs for putting this together for us! And also THANKS to all our volunteers and participants! Check PickleballTournaments.com to see how our Club members did – many did extremely well!
The Snowbird Farewell Dinner is coming up quickly on March 22 at 6PM in Marinette Auditorium. The Club will provide turkey, ham and a vegetable lasagna while members bring sides, salads, and deserts. We’ll also each bring our favorite beverage. There is no registration fee for members, but you do need to sign up on the Club website. Your guest may join us for $5, payable at the door.
The Dink Tournament follows the Dinner on March 25 at 9 at Marinette. The Club will provide lunch following play. This is a fun event you don’t want to miss! Sign up today! This will be our last major event until Independence Day.
The last Club Membership Meeting of the season will be Tuesday, March 26 at noon at FAIRWAY. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn what’s going on in YOUR Club and offer your suggestions for improvement!
The Spring Slam at Sun City takes place this weekend at Marinette. All 20 courts have been allocated for the tournament. While there may be a few available at any given time, you should plan your open play at Mountain View. Come out and cheer for your friends and enjoy some really good pickleball!
The Club Tournament was a huge success in spite of a computer glitch. The following is from Richard Heyward: First, I had 4 people who signed up and did not show up, no advance notification from any of them. Second, Mr. XYZ walked off and left his group short a person before the end. No explanation. Having had my complaints raised, I would like to publicly thank, through our webpage, the following. Linda Skaggs Dianna Graham Jeff Skaggs. Phil Arinno After sorting the players following the no shows, our printer went on strike and refused to print anything. Linda hand wrote over 500 names on score sheets to start us moving. Dianna kept the sheets under control during our frantic effort to get games moving and Jeff was an outstanding announcer. Phil put in effort beforehand and sorted the prizes. Thanks again to all the volunteers and participants. The “No Shows” and the person who left his group stranded will be ineligible to participate in our Dink Tournament on March 25th.
Ryan is going to run Limited Mobility Pickleball until the end of April. The last organized session will be April 26th. Hopefully many of the participants will get together on their own through the summer. LMP will be RESCHEDULED due to the Slam to Tuesday at 10 for this week only.
Sign up for the Dink Tournament March 25 is now available on line. Sign up as a team, with one person doing the registering and paying for both. Since most courts will be in use for the tournament, Paddle Play and the Ladder will be cancelled on that date.
As mentioned in earlier emails, “no shows” will not be eligible for the next Club event. There is a tremendous amount of work put into each of our events, and having to reshuffle the entire schedule can be a major undertaking. The courtesy of a phone call a day in advance is all that’s asked if you must cancel.
