Frogs VS Snowbirds

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on March 15, 2023 by Allen GilsonMarch 15, 2023

Hello Sun City Pickleball on this rainy, soggy day.

Our Spring Slam Tournament was a huge success! But with Jeff and Lynda Skaggs as the tournament directors, how would you expect anything less? Thanks Jeff and Lynda. Would also like to thank the many club members who volunteered! These tournaments could not happen without you. The Skaggs and myself got numerous compliments from the participants, the referees, the venders and the spectators on what a great, well-organized tournament our club hosts.
Our club was very well represented not only with participants in the tournament, but also on the medal stand. Well done. The winners have appeared with their picture and hardware on our Facebook page.

Our next membership meeting is on Monday, March 27, at 4pm at the Marinette auditorium.
If you volunteered at the Spring Slam? You filled out a raffle ticket for volunteering. The drawing will be immediately after the membership meeting. Must be present to win.

The Desert Frogs VS the Snowbirds tournament is coming up on Saturday April 1st. Yes. April 1st. This is not an April fouls day joke. The tournament will begin at 2:30pm at the Marinette courts, The signup should be on our web page soon. There will be 42 signups for Frogs, 42 for Snowbirds. 40 players for each. 2 subs/reserves for each.

We will also be having our Farewell dinner on Saturday the 1st pf April. The dinner will be held at the Lake View recreation center. Starting at 6pm. Dinner will be provided. Bring a beverage of your choice. The signup for the dinner should also be on web page soon. There will be 200 signup slots for this event.

Wish i had some good news about the possibility of our club getting more pickleball courts! Not only do I not have good news, I’ve got no news. It appears the new/current RCSC board of directors is going to kill the Lake View project. Not %100 sure, but likely. Looks like they could be starting all over once again, It was one year ago today we had a membership meeting at the Mountain View, Thought there was a plan for good, quality courts to be built at the Lake View. Not sure what the plan is now?

Can’t hardly believe I’m talking about events in April! Some of our Snowbirds are getting ready to head back to their summer homes.

Stay dry and as always, happy hitting.

Slam

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on March 8, 2023 by Allen GilsonMarch 8, 2023

Hello Sun City Pickleball,

Really nice the weather has warmed up! No layering of clothes. Don’t dare to be the first to say “gosh, it’s to hot”

Spring Slam is coming up starting on Friday. Thanks to the Skaggs for being the tournament directors. Good luck to all of you participating and a big thanks to all the volunteers. Speaking of volunteers. Please wear your Sun City club name tag while you are volunteering. If you were given a purple Aetna Volunteer shirt in the past, please wear it. If not, and you have a purple shirt please wear it. We want to show appreciation to Aetna for their support, sponsorship of the tournament.

Thanks to Tom Jeffers for doing a line judge clinic. Also, a big thanks to Elain Guest and Steve McClean for helping out. Thanks to all of you who took the time to participate in the clinic. We could still use some line judges for the Slam tournament. Sign up on our web page or just show up.

The usual Friday night social hosted by Terry and Murray Griffen is still on! The social night has just been moved to the Mountain View for this one time during the tournament.

Happy hitting, see you on the courts.

New Year

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on December 28, 2022 by Allen GilsonDecember 28, 2022

Hello Club Members!!

CLUB DUES
Just a reminder, Club Dues are due on January 1st, and no later than January 15th. Please complete the membership form even though you’re a returning member.  Membership form is online as well as you’re able to pay online. *For our over 80 group, your annual dues are complimentary, but you still need to complete a membership form.  All members should have a blue 2023 sticker on their name tag by January 16th.  See a board member for the sticker after you’ve paid.

CLUB SHIRTS & HATS
It’s time to order your Club shirts & hats!  You can order your items through January 30th, 2023.  The group order will be placed on the 31st of January, Shirts will be delivered to your home address within 2 weeks once group order is placed.  (Here’s a tip….if there are 2 of you in a household, order all your shirts in one order. That way you’ll only pay one shipping charge.  (The shipping charge is a flat $6.95 regardless of the # of shirts you order.).  The hats will be delivered in bulk to Lynda Skaggs who will notify everyone by email when to pick up your hat at Marinette.

Below are 2 separate links, one for shirts and one for hats.
These links will also be available on our Club Website:

RECIPROCAL
Next reciprocal is January 22nd.
There were some questions that arose on the lineup.  Here’s the protocol:  The first 6 in any of the divisions will play.  If someone drops out from the first 6, then the 7th signup will play.  If someone else drops out then the 8th signup will play and so on.  Over the past few months there have been a good number of players who had to withdraw their signup.  Changes in schedules are totally understood.  It is important that we have all 10 slots filled for just those changes!  In a few cases over the past 3 months, I have not had all the 10 slots filled in a particular division and had to scramble for players. If we have all 10 slots filled then I don’t have to run through the roster to find players.  In addition, we do our best to accommodate the team partner requests but if one of the team signs up as #5 and the requested partner is #7 then it is quite possible you will be teamed with someone else. The way to avoid this is to sign up early!!!!!

For all you new pickleball players, January 2nd starts a new 5 day Basic Clinic with Shayne Lehman.  Please sign up on our Club webpage on the right-hand side, click on “CLINICS”.  There are openings available!

UPCOMING DATES
January 1 – Mt. View Fun Day 12-5 – bring a snack to share & your own beverage
January 13th – Marinette Fun Day 4-7pm – bring a snack to share and your own beverage
January 16th – Marinette Membership Meeting at 4 pm – All Club events are canceled during the Club Membership Meeting. January 16th @ Marinette Auditorium.  Your presence at the membership meeting would be appreciated.
Rodeo – February 3rd – 4 – 7 @ Marinette.  Thanks to Lis Smoot for coordinating this fun event!

As the New Year is fast approaching more snowbirds will be arriving!  Safe travels to you!

I’m sitting here at the Marinette Center today in the pouring rain, looking out on the courts and see several pickleballs getting wet.  Please remember to pick up all balls off the courts and empty the ball holders and return them to the coolers.

Happy New Year!  Looking forward to seeing you all on the courts!

Volunteers

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on November 17, 2022 by Allen GilsonNovember 17, 2022

Good morning Sun City Pickleball Players

Looking for volunteers for the hospitality committee! Our club will be having several upcoming events in 2023. 17 events to be exact. Volunteers are needed for set up, new food ideas and clean up at these events. This is a great way to get involved in the club and get the 4 hours of volunteer hours you need per year and to put towards the 10 hours you will need to attend next year’s volunteer event. Please contact Deb Lantzy at dlansee@live.com if you like to help out.

This Sunday we have another reciprocal play with/against Sun City West. The play this time will take place at the Sun City West courts. Sun City won the first reciprocal play. Let’s keep it going! Thanks to Will and Karen Young tor coordinating this event. Please consider signing up for the next reciprocal play to be held here in Sun City on Sunday December 11th. Players in the A group are especially needed. The A group requires a rating of 4.0 or better

The RCSC board of directors’ election for the upcoming year of 2023 has begun; You can vote online now. There are 3 vacancies on the board. You can vote for up to 3 candidates. If you are uncertain who to vote for you can ask myself or Lynda Skaggs for recommendations. There are candidates that we feel can better Sun City pickleball more than others.

As always, looking forward to seeing all of you on the courts. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

Dan
