Our Sun City Pickleball Club Officers for 2020 are: President; Dave Breault VP; Tom Jeffers Secretary; Ann Clark Treasurer; Jan Booth Membership; Evelyn Larsen Publicity; Lynda Skaggs Member at Large; Dan Haberman
Congratulations to all, and thank you to our 2019 Board!
Candidates: If you will be seeking office in tomorrow’s election, and have opposition, you will be given a 2 minute (max!) time slot to tell everyone why you are the best candidate . Those running unopposed will have a chance to introduce themselves while we await the election results.
Tickets: Party ticket sales ended Monday, as announced over 2 weeks ago. At that time, we needed to give the caterer an accurate count. A few members have since expressed interest in tickets, and there are always a few people who can’t use their tickets at the last minute. If you fit either description please contact Frank Spina and we will try to pair sellers with buyers.

Christmas Party Tickets will be on sale until Monday, December 2nd. The weather this week has impacted when who will be where to sell them. If you have been unable to get tickets, contact me at this email and we’ll arrange to get tickets to you. The Party is December 7 at 4:30 at Bell. The meal will be catered by Sardella’s, entertainment by “Street Player”. Attire is your choice, from casual to semi formal. Beverages are included, but you might want to bring your drink of choice.
As mentioned earlier, our annual Christmas Party will be December 7 in the Bell social Halls. Happy hour at 4:30, dinner at 5:30, and it was originally stated the band will play from 6 – 8. Hopefully we can get the start and finish times for the entertainment both moved a little later. Tickets will go on sale Monday, November 4. Frank Spina will be at Marinette from 8:30 til 10:00 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I’ll have the tickets at Marinette Tuesday evenings beginning November 5 from 5:30 til 7:00. The Pavilion will be COMPLETELY CLOSED this week for the new lighting to be installed. This is not what we were told a few days ago, but is the latest as of 10:00 or so this morning. Courts 1 – 4 will be accessible through the gate at the far end of the patio area. It appears this project will take all week, so the Friday ladder probably will be cancelled.
Our next Club MEMBERSHIP MEETING will be next Monday, October 21st, at 4 at Marinette. There will be a lot of information about the season ahead, voting on a couple of possible Bylaw changes, and Nomination of Officers. Please try to be there!
Our next FUN DAY will be tomorrow, Tuesday, at 5 at Mountain View. Come play a little pickleball and visit with old and new friends. Bring a snack to share if you wish, and your drink of choice. Please, NO GLASS! After one of these events, including last week’s, there are always questions about when we will do this again. In this case, there is this one tomorrow night, but there also is play 5 evenings a week at Marinette and evening play will begin again soon at Mountain View.
There will eventually be RAIN in Sun City, and it will once again lead to questions about court use. Ladders, leagues and Round Robins will run, or not, at each Captain’s discretion. If they run, they will do so on 6 courts or less, with 2 courts left available for all RCSC cardholders to use on a rotating basis. Guests, since they cannot displace a cardholder, should not be brought during the rain as they may very well not be allowed to play at all! Please bear in mind that cancellation of one event does not necessarily mean the whole day will be a washout – cancellation decisions will be made on an event by event basis.
First, I need to take a few lines to thank Tom Jeffers for all his work on our behalf. All our emails for the past two months were Tom’s work. He also brought the Lobster to and from the factory in CA for repairs, and is now working on a couple of clinics for us in October. So, THANK YOU TOM, for these and many other things!
Cut off date for entries in our Member/Member & Member/Guest Tournament is this Sunday, September 15. We’ve had a very encouraging response, but could use a few more teams. Other Club activities on September 20 and 21 will be cancelled. There will be plenty of room for Open Play.
RCSC has mentioned several times, from several places within, that there is a limited number of times a Guest may be signed into an RCSC facility in a calendar year. That number is 14. How, or if, this will be addressed is still open. Just be aware the regulation is there – and is not new.
We have a lot of things coming up following next week’s tournament: 10/09 Fun Day at Marinette – 5:00 10/15 Fun Day at Mountain View – 5:00 10/?? Mid month Line Judging Clinic 10/?? ” ” Referee Clinic 10/21 Membership Meeting – 4:00, Marinette 10/29-31 Roundup Tournament 11/11 Color Team Tournament – 2:00, Marinette 11/18 Meeting for Men’s League and Women’s League – 1:00, Marinette 11/16 Volunteer Luncheon – 11:00, Marinette Patio Have you volunteered yet? 12/06 Membership Meeting – 1:00, Marinette 12/07 Christmas Party – 4:30, Bell Center There will be more events, and more info will be forthcoming. Dates for the October clinics will be sent as soon as they are confirmed.
Simon, our original Pickleball Training machine, has outlived its usefulness to the Club. It still works, but can be finicky and therefore no longer meets our needs. He will be sold to a Club Member for $100. If there’s no interest, we’ll advertise elsewhere.
