End of Season

Good Afternoon

May 1st is right around the corner. The temps are rising, The Snowbirds are heading back to their summer homes. What a great winter season Sun City pickleball has had!
We’ve had so much to be thankful for this season from October 1st 2021 until now almost May 1st 2022. Many of our Canadian friends were able to return to Sun City after a covid lock down. All of our rec centers remained open the entire winter. Our club was able to return back to most of its scheduled events. Round Robins, ladders. lessons, clinics, club tournaments and The Round Up and The Spring Slam. A huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who made these events possible.

We do have a fun day coming up on May 6th at the Marinette, from 7 am to 10 am. The club will provide donuts, muffins, coffee and some juice drinks. All you need to do is show up and have fun.

We have new reciprocal play leaders. Next year in our play versus Sun City West, Karen and Wil Young will be the go to coordinators for this activity. Thanks Karen and Wil.

The summer schedule which starts on May 1st can be found on our web page. There will be numerous weekly activities. Modified pickleball, social pickleball, women’s ladders and round robins, mixed round robins and ladders. A men’s Thursday ladder being coordinated by Marc Ward. Contact Marc if interested. This ladder is a continuation of the ladder Mike Luke did during the winter.

I’d also like to thank Jon Flach for his efforts in organizing an 80+ year old group of our young at heart pickleball players. At last count this group included 22 members.

Mt View Master Plan Presentation — Club Round Robin

Good evening Sun City Pickleball Club Members,
       
          You may have received an email from our RCSC that gives you an option to view the preliminary drawings for the Mountain View Master Plan that is to be presented to the RCSC Executive Board this Monday, May 10 at 9 a.m. at the Sundial Dial Auditorium . . .
https://suncityaz.org/recreation/mountain-view-recreation-center    Please check out these drawings that will be presented this next Monday.  Several Members have inquired about what is the status of the proposed additional pickleball courts at Mountain View.  I, too, inquired . . . here is what I learned:
This is a conceptual 30,000 ft drawing.  The idea was to determine how the different elements could be accommodated on the site and whether some elements would need to be eliminated or moved.  Some further decisions would be part of the detailed site plan drawings once they have the green light on the conceptual site plan.  Several of our Club Members are planning on attending the Monday RCSC Executive Board meeting to see the presentation first hand . . . you, too, may wish to attend.

Our first official Pickleball Club activity – a Club round robin – will be beginning on Wednesday, May 26 at 7 a.m. Please put this on your calendar . . . getting back to some kind of “normal”!

Club Shirts/Hats Order Schedule

Hello this Sunday, Sunny Morning Sun City Pickleball Club Members,

We started a Club shirt/hat order last Friday – it went very successfully – so many orders for our Club Shirt/Hats – thank you for showing and ordering so many! There will be a few more times to order our Club Shirts/Hats as planned from last week – at this point we plan to be at Marinette tomorrow morning (Monday) around 9 a.m., then Tuesday morning at Mountain View around 10:30 a.m. and then, Marinette again, on Wednesday around 9:30 am. We will keep you posted if there are any changes.

There will be more updates on Club Events in the near future. As noted, the Sun City/Sun City West Reciprocal has been cancelled for today and will pick back up in October. The Women’s Ladder has also been cancelled for March 16 and March 23. Thank you Carol, Cathy and Jeff for coordinating these very successful Events!

So, for this quick note . . . as one of our favorite TV shows once said –

Pickleball Rodeo/ Skills Event

Good afternoon Sun City Pickleball Club Members,

Our next Event, Friday, February 7 from 10 am – 1 pm – our annual Pickleball Rodeo/Skills Event will be taking place at Marinette.
Test your Pickleball Skills by competing at a variety of stations – each designed to measure specific strategies in this wonderful game of ours. You will be moving from Station to Station – some of the Skill Stations include a Dink Station, Serve Station, Smash Station, and 3rd Shot Drop Station. You will earn Points at each Station.

Lunch will be provided at the end of the Rodeo. Please bring a beverage of your choice and enjoy a fun social time after the Rodeo.

There will be no Friday Morning Ladder February 7 – see you all at the Rodeo!!

Sign Ups will be available this evening on our Club Website.

And, a SPECIAL NOTE – THE MOUNTAIN VIEW COURTS WILL BE OPEN THIS THURSDAY!! They have moved the court clean to the next week.

Our SSIPA Tournament is currently in full swing over at Marinette through Thursday – lots of great Pickleball being played with so many Club Members participating – as they say – “worth the trip” – come on up and cheer them on!

SSIPA Tournament, Lighting Finished

 Sun City Pickleball Club members are reminded that registration for the Sun City Marinette Super Senior International Pickleball Association tournament (Jan. 28-30, 2020) opens at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.

Of course, tournaments fill quickly so please mark this on your calendar. The registration link is below.

The Marinette lighting project has been completed.  The Friday ladder had already been cancelled but other play has resumed as normal.

Sign ups, Date Changes, Name Tags, Club Hours, Dues

Sign up will be available soon for the Fall/Winter Club Ladders and is already available for the Leagues. There is a League Players meeting scheduled for November 4, but you should be registered prior.

Registration is now available for our Line Judging Clinic. Please note the date change – it is now scheduled for October 18 from 10-12. A full description is available on our website.  This will be a fun and educational event.

Club Name tags are to be worn during all play taking place within Club Hours, whether at a planned event or during open play. This is part of our Club Rules and Regs and is also a RCSC requirement. Rules are quite  definitive about membership requirement, and the following is directly from our Bylaws:
“A club visitor is a RCSC cardholder but not a member of the club. A visitor may participate in club time play for a maximum of three times and thereafter must join the club. A visitor may not displace club members.”  Club Hours are now in effect evenings at Marinette.  There have been several non members playing all summer – now is the time to remind them they need to join our Club!

Dues for 2020 are $15. They are payable now and are past due as of December 31. The easiest way to pay, both for the Club and most of our members, is online via PayPal. Cash and checks are both accepted, but please do not put cash in the mail box at Marinette.
