Round Up

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on October 17, 2022 by Bill BoothOctober 17, 2022

Hello Sun City Pickleball

Our Round Up Tournament was a huge success! Despite the torrential down pours we experienced on Saturday! For those of you who were not able to attend the tournament, we had rivers running through the Marinette pavilion. Our members and the RCSC maintenance personnel jumped into action and eventually the tournament carried on. Wish I could name each and every one of our volunteers by name to thank them! You’re awesome. Jeff and Lynda Skaggs, as always, were great tournament directors. The tournament ran like a well-oiled machine.

Our club members that played in Round Up represented us well. Medal winners included:
Gold Medal men. Kim Janecky. Jerry Raisanen, David Stephens.
Gold Medal Mix. Kathy Waller. Andy Kinder. Patty Evans. Jan Hodgson.
Gold Medal women. Kari Anderson. Penny Janecky. Kathy Waller. Nancy Considine. Terri Smiley. Paula Beaty, Karen Madison. Jan Hodgson.
Silver Medal men. Jim Diamond. Randy Romero. Tim Hatzenbeler.
Silver Medal women. Patty Evans. Alice Ritzman. Carrol Worsnup.
Bronze Metal men. Bob Thacker. Dave Breault, Tom Jeffers.
Bronze Metal Mix. Carol Hutchinson. Bob Thacker. Joy Stephens. David Stephens. Irene Leaf. Tim Hatzenbeler’

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on October 13, 2022 by Bill BoothOctober 13, 2022

Good morning Sun City Pickleball

Some upcoming events and reminders.

Tomorrow Friday October the 14th, Our Round Up Tournament begins. Runs through Sunday the !6th. All the courts at the Marinette will be in use for this tournament. If you would still like to get some pickleball play in, you will need to head to the Mountain View courts. I’d like to thank all our club volunteers who help make this tournament happen. Also, a big thanks to Lynda and Jeff Skaggs for being the tournament directors. This quite possibly will be Lynda and Jeff’s final time as tournament directors. Will be in need of someone to take their place. If you are not playing or volunteering i recommend you head down just to watch and support or club members who are participating.

We are in need of players in levels A, B and C for both men and women! We have spots accounted for in the event there are dropouts or no shows! A big thanks to Karen and Will Young for being this year’s Reciprocal play coordinators.

Paddle Holder Use with Video

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on October 10, 2022 by Bill BoothOctober 10, 2022

In the era of Covid and for ease of using the paddle holders without moving 20 paddles every time a court becomes available. Simply take your paddles out when it’s your turn to play, move the ring to the right to the next set of paddles. The ring continues to move to the right until the last set of 4 paddles are gone, and then goes back to position 1 on the very left.

Winter

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on September 24, 2022 by Bill BoothSeptember 24, 2022

Hello Sun City Pickleball

Here in Colorado the leaves are turning yellow, able to see your breath in the morning. Must be time to head south?

The Winter schedule/calendar for our club begins on October 1st. It’s going to be a very busy winter season coming up. We are now close to a thousand members. On a typical week this winter there will be 22 club activities taking place with 13 coordinators overseeing these activities. The activities will include lessons, clinics, ladders, round robins, paddle play, social pickleball and modified pickleball. There will also be the assorted club tournaments, fun days and of course open play.

Just a reminder. When participating in any club activity wearing your name tag is required. Also name tags are to be worn while playing during club time.

Yesterday, Friday the 23rd, the club held its first Fall Information Night. The event was a huge success with over a hundred club members attending. Lots of new faces which is who this event was mainly targeting. Hope to make this a yearly event. Thanks to Lynda and Jeff Skaggs for putting this event on.

I’ve been told that all the volunteer spots for the Round Up Tournament have been filled. A huge thank you to Lynda Frerichs and Pat Klepadlo for helping to get the volunteers needed for the Round Up. Also, just as a reminder, when you fill out your membership form you are agreeing to volunteer four hours of your time to the club per year.

I recently had a conference call/meeting with people from the RCSC about the Lake View pickleball court project. A very positive meeting. There is progress being made. Maybe not as fast as I’d wish, but progress.

Again, looking forward to seeing friends on and off the courts.
Dan

Paddle Play

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on September 16, 2022 by Bill BoothJanuary 16, 2023

Paddle Play will begin Tuesday, October 4, from 2 – 3:30, for Beginners to 2.5 players. Beginners need to have taken the Intro to Pickleball class or have played for at least a month. You don’t need to sign up. Just show up to court 1-4 a little before 2 pm.

Intermediate Paddle Play for players who are 3.0 and higher begins Wednesday, October 5, from 3-4:30 on courts 17-20.

What is Paddle Play? The first half hour of Paddle Play will be focused on a Pickleball Skill. The next hour will be round robin play with an emphasis on improving your game skills. Each court will have one or two Mentors who will help coach your court. The Mentors will be volunteer club members who have a higher rating than the players on the court.

Mentors Needed. I will need members to volunteer as Mentors. In the past, Mentors have been invaluable in helping our club players improve their skills during play. If you are interested in becoming a Mentor for Paddle Play, please email Lis Smoot

Board Nominations

Sun City Pickleball Club Posted on September 10, 2022 by Bill BoothSeptember 10, 2022

Hello Sun City Pickleball

Since my last email, Kathryn Rabe has also made the decision to not pursue being on the board for 2023. Kathryn had the position of Media and Technology Chair. I’d like to thank Kathryn for serving in that capacity in 2022.

There are now three vacancies on our board that definitely need to be filled for 2023. Treasurer, secretary and media and technology. The rest of the board has offered to continue on the board for 2023. They are Dave Parenteau, member at large. Gay Jones, membership. Lynda Skaggs, vice president. Dan Haberman, President.

The nominating committee consisting of Shayne Lehman, Gwen Miller and Ralph Foster have talked to and interviewed several members to fill the upcoming vacant board positions. Their recommendations are; Rachel Trojanovich for secretary. Alice Ritzman for Treasurer and Mo McClean for media and Technology. I’d like to thank Shayne, Gwen and Ralph for serving on the nominating committee

AT the membership meeting on October 24th, at 4 pm at the Marinette auditorium the nominating committee will present their recommendations for the open board positions to the club membership. At that time there can also be nominations from the floor. The elections will be held at the December membership meeting.

I only have a little information at this time in regard to the Lake View Pickleball courts. The RCSC has an architect they are using and are partnering with Elite Sports Builders on the project. The club committee working on this project has seen some very basic drawings. I’d say the project is still in a conceptual phase. More information as it comes in.

Looking forward to seeing all of you out and about and on the courts.

Thanks to Shayne Lehman, Gwen Miller and Ralph Foster for serving on this committee.

Some things to look for coming up. An ice machine to be installed in the Marinette pavilion some time in September. I’ve mentioned before, the resurfacing of the Marinette courts in late November.
