Line Judge Training Clinic-Round Up 2022
A major revenue source for our club is the tournaments that we host every year at the Marinette courts. For our members who have participated or observed tournament play, you know that successful tournaments depend heavily on our club volunteers. One of the most exciting and dynamic volunteer positions is serving as a line judge.
Our tournaments are USA Pickleball sanctioned events, which require line judges for all gold medal matches. A pickleball line judge, much like a tennis line judge, is part of the team that supports the referee by observing the travel of the ball and signaling to the referee if the ball has touched the ground or other object outside the court boundaries.
Line judges have the opportunity to see the gold medal match competition and the best players compete at all the skill levels. For our members looking to learn how to line judge, this class is a must for you. For our seasoned Club line judges, this is an excellent review of the rules and their application to the game.
We are fortunate to have one of our own club members, Elaine Guest, to assist us at our Clinic. Elaine has an extensive background as an umpire and referee. Notably, she is our only club member who has achieved Certified USA Pickleball Referee status. During the clinic, Elaine will share the referee perspective with the attendees and take any mystery out of line judging.
We’ll spend about an hour discussing the role of line judge, then we’ll apply that knowledge on the courts to practice the new skills. Go to Sign Up Genius and register. The class is limited to 16 participants, plus four alternates. Paddle, name tags, and court attire are required!
For clinic questions, please contact Tom Jeffers.
Remember to sign up on the Club website as a Round Up line judge volunteer!
