New Activity
Good afternoon, Sun City pickleball players.
The club has recently added a new pickleball activity we want to make you aware of. It’s called Social Pickleball. This activity will be available starting Monday January 31st at 2 pm at the Marinette. And also, on Saturdays at 1 pm also at the Marinette. You can sign up for these events on our website.
So, what’s Social Pickleball? It’s an offshoot of Modified pickleball.
Definition of Social Pickleball:
A non-competitive round robin format. For players looking for a fun, comfortable, social, non-competitive type of play. Players should be able to move around the court safely. Players of various skill levels are perfect for this group. Standard pickleball rules are used.
Definition of Modified Pickleball:
A round robin format for players with limited mobility and/or permanent physical disabilities. Also, for those players recovering from a debilitating surgery. Modified pickleball allows a player two service tries and two ball bounces for players.
Thank you to Kathryn Rabe who is the social pickleball coordinator and Allen Gilson the modified pickleball coordinator.
There are still slots available for the rating clinics on Saturday January 29th and Saturday February 5th. You can sign up for these on our website. We highly recommend you attend one of these clinics if you do not already have a USA PICKLEBALL rating or a current club rating. A goal of our club is that all club members will need a rating in order to sign up for clinics and lessons. Thanks to Lis Smoot for coordinating these rating sessions.
There is now a sign up for our 2022 Club Tournament on Friday February 18th. Play starts at 10 am plan on arriving before 9;45 am. This sign up is also on our website. Pizza lunch to follow tournament on Marinette patio. Bring your own beverages.
Pickleballs seem to be mysteriously disappearing from the Mt. View courts???? Please do not take balls for yourself or to put into your bags. Until a solution can be found all club members help would be appreciated. One “possible” theory is the courts are getting used not only by non-club members, but possibly non- Sun City residences. Just keep your eyes open.
All for now,
Happy Hitting,
Dan H.
