A Few Notes in October–No Membership Meeting–Upcoming Elections
Good October Afternoon Sun City Pickleball Club Members,
Ah, we finally are into that great time of year where the weather and outdoor pickleball agree!
Some important information:
Sun City Pickleball Board Elections – In “normal” times, at our October General Membership Meeting (not happening this year), our Club Nominating Committee – Carol Arinno, Diana Colonna, Joe Gilfillan – would present their nominations for our Club Executive Board for 2021. There would also be the opportunity for other Club Members to “throw their hat in the ring” (or “onto the court” as you would!). However, this year, with NO MEETING and the PANDEMIC situation, the procedure for conducting Club Officer elections has changed. The RCSC has given each Club the opportunity to conduct Board elections via the internet. Our Nominating Committee has asked our current Club Executive Board . . . Dan Haberman – Member at Large, Lynda Skaggs – Publicity, Evelyn Larsen – Membership, Ann Clark – Secretary, Jan Booth – Treasurer, Tom Jeffers – Vice President, Dave Breault – President . . . to continue on for 2021. They have all volunteered to continue.
We are working on putting together an “on line” procedure for all Club Members to put in their vote . . .YAY or Nay with the current Executive Board staying on for 2021. More info will be coming on when/how that will happen.
Another Election
Karen McAdam, one of own Sun City Pickleball Club Members, is running for a Director’s Seat on the RCSC Board! As stated in a previous Club email, she has been a great spokesperson and representative of our Pickleball Club over the last few years already! She brings a lot of expertise and experience to that position. Her public presentation is available to view on the RCSC website. There are 2 public, informational meet and greet the candidates at the SUNDIAL Auditorium – the first is Monday, November 2 from 2 – 4 pm and the second is Thursday, November 5 from 6 – 8 pm. RCSC Board elections will begin on Tuesday, November 9 through the RCSC on line portal. Please get out there and vote for Karen. Another candidate, Dale Lehrer, the current RCSC Board VP, is also up for re election….her work on the Ad Hoc Committee for the Mountain View renovation is well noted! This is a link to Karen’s video…
Bylaw Committee
Our Bylaw Committee . . . Coleen Hoeschen (coordinator), Donna Holick, Diana Graham, Cindy Golden, Dave Breault . . . has been very busy – through zoom – these last few months sharing their research and expertise. They are only a few sessions away from completing the new proposal.
A Bit of Celebrity
Lynda Skaggs (our Club Publicity Chairperson) recently met with Kendrick Brunson, a freelance journalist hired by National Geographic, to help her write an article about some of the Sun City Clubs – Pickleball, of course – and how they functioned during the pandemic. Lynda (and Jeff) explained how difficult it was NOT TO PLAY PICKLEBALL – addictive as we know – and how our “pickleball people” found interesting, creative, safe ways to continue playing. More of the interview can be found on our Club facebook page. When the final article from Nat Geo is released, Lynda will have it posted on our Club Website.
Other Notes
The calendar year, 2020, has taken so many turns and alternative routes . . . come on 2021!! Progress has been made toward putting individual gates for courts 13 and 14 directly from the patio. Good strides for adding wind screens on the east (track side) of courts 13 and 15 and on the west side (parking lot side) of courts 17 and 20 are happening. An AED device for inside the Marinette pickleball pavilion will be available soon. Looking into more training too! Six paddle racks are up – 2 for the south courts, 2 for the interior courts, 2 for the north courts. Two additional sets of bleachers for the north courts at Marinette have been approved by the RCSC. New wind socks have been put up on both the north and south outside courts. Overhead fans in the pavilion are still “on a burner”. The flooding situation (when it rains torrentially?) is being addressed and solutions are being researched. Dates for our March (Slam) and October (Round Up) have been reserved “on the books”. Plans for the renovation at Mountain View are proceeding!
Thank you for “social distancing” and your awareness in following the safety guidelines put forth by the RCSC in continuing to play doubles. As we get busier and busier on the pickleball courts, please remember to be considerate of others waiting to play, to putting the pickleballs back in the coolers at both Mountain View and Marinette, and, at Marinette, in bringing the coolers into the pavilion when finished playing on the outside courts.
Yes, our event/activity calendar for 2021 is ready to go . . . soon as the “air is clear”! Let’s hope soon!!
For now,
Dave B
