For those of you that have signed up for the Westbrook vs. Sun City Reciprocal play that was scheduled for the 22nd from 11am to 1pm there has been a change of dates.
Unfortunately, the Westbrook Reciprocal Tournament has to be delayed due to a conflict in Westbrook’s schedule. They seem to have forgotten that they were already scheduled for another tournament on the 22nd. They do not have enough players to play both.
They DO NOT want to cancel the reciprocal play however and have asked that if we could postpone the play to the 29th they would greatly appreciate it.
If those of you that have already signed up can wait to play on the 29th that would be great, just leave your name on the signup and see you on the 29th.
If not then you can go to Sign Up Genius and cancel your spot to make room for another player.
See those that will move it out a week on the 29th at Marinette at 11am (10 minutes early would be nice).
Thank you for your continued support of our club and our Reciprocal play.
The ladies have filled all the slots for Westbrook reciprocal play on Sunday, April 22nd at our Marinette facility. We just need one more confirmed man and two alternate men to sign up and we can show Westbrook, whom already has a full roster, that we are just as committed to this reciprocal play.
Some have said there is not enough below 3.5 or 3.0 level events. Here is your turn to play others in that below 3.0 rating.
Jeff Skaggs, of our club has been working with his counterpart at Westbrook (where they have added new courts we are told) to begin club coordination. If you are 2.5/2.0 player, please add your name to the sign up. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b4fadaa28a3fd0-westbrook
Now, that was a fun Friday social play and dinner on the patio at Marinette tonight. Nice to see many people enjoying the comfortable temps before moving north.
Your board is trying to finish the schedule for this year and next. To do so, we need two people to volunteer for being Tournament Directors for the SSIPA (end of January) and Spring Slam (first half of March) tournaments. Without a tournament director soon for SSIPA, we won’t schedule this tournament and therefore will be by-passed by the SSIPA organization.
Barry Woods, Tournament Director for Fall Round-Up tournament, has offered to have someone shadow him and learn what needs to be done as tournament director.
Again, we are a club of volunteers that graciously give our time to help others enjoy the game of pickleball. Please let a board member know asap if you would be willing to be a tournament director for either of these two tournaments early next year.
2018 Board of Directors
This saying goodbye is tough… but let’s have fun doing it. It is our final Friday Play/Dinner Social tomorrow. Please bring your dinner to enjoy on the Marinette patio after play time. Play starts about 5pm and dinner about 6:30pm.
Thanks to Terry and Murray for setting this up and being our social leaders of the Friday Marinette evening play.
Here is a new event for those not moving north for the summer…
We have been approached by the Westbrook Pickleball Club to begin reciprocal play with them. As your volunteer director for this engagement, we have decided to begin the reciprocal play at Marinette on Sundays, beginning April 22. We will alternate each month between their courts and ours. Starting time at 11am and ending at 1pm. This will allow for churchgoers to attend and still be early enough to beat the heat of the late spring and summer. This will occur monthly through July. We have decided on a 4-month trial that will be extended if there is enough interest.
The format decided has been for mixed doubles with play levels of 2.0 and 2.5. This will allow for the more inexperienced players to get some tournament experience under their belt. We will play 3 games to 15 with all points counting toward the total for each club. If the interest continues we will expand the reciprocal play to include men’s and women’s doubles as well. Since Westbrook only has eight courts we will have to limit the number of players to only 16 from each club to include eight women and eight men.
At the time of the reciprocal play, we will blind draw from each club the pairings for the day. Each pairing will include a pair of either 2.0 or 2.5 players. We chose this format so that players can get some experience playing with others that they might not have played with so that we can get to know each other better. Each club should bring their own hydration products and the hosting club will ask their players to bring snacks to share for all.
We will make the Sun City signups available through the Signup Genius website. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b4fadaa28a3fd0-westbrook
I invite and encourage all 2.0 and 2.5 players to sign up to play and engage in the fun and comradery with a new club.
Let’s show our neighbors a good time for all.
Thank you and enjoy playing,
Volunteer Sun City vs. Westbrook Reciprocal Play Director
