Clinics – Restart
Good News…we are rolling out a new program to help us play better with less injury. Clinic signups available now on our website.
I’m pleased to announce that Lis Smoot, longtime educator and coach in physical fitness, has graciously accepted to be “Lead Instructor” for clinics. Along with Lis, Bud Langford, also a coach of various sports, will be the back up to Lis.
Lis is taking a different approach to lessons for our club, whereby each week will focus on different techniques and skill development for both the beginner and advanced beginner classes.
Supporting this weekly “scheduled lesson plan” program will be a cadre of volunteer instructors of which you may have seen before and some new ones.
I take this opportunity to remind all of us of how fortunate we are to have such great facilities and talented players/instructors giving “generously” of their time to help us further enjoy pickleball. They Rock!
A few details:
1. Clinic Days/Times: The beginner lessons will be on Tuesday at 3:30pm and the advanced beginner on Thursday at 3:30pm. Only 18 students per class/week. Website signups are for one week at a time. Intermediate clinic startup to be determined. Advanced clinics are on Wed. at 11am (8 students/class).
2. Planned Curriculum: There are 6 weeks of skill development, whereby each week will focus on different techniques/skills along with review and some playtime. Therefore, one can select which week they think they could benefit most from or keep coming for all weeks. However, it is a first come, first serve sign up system.
3. Clinic Duration: Currently planned for 1.5 hours each week and a 6-week program that may restart at the end of the 6 weeks or evolve with adjusted lesson plans.
Please understand this is different than previous clinics and a “work in progress”. We intend to learn what works well and what doesn’t, so as to adjust to the needs of our members.
Please accept the program, the instructors as is and trust they know what is best for your development. Don’t’ get caught up in prior ratings or “desired” ratings. Instructors may place us in groups that are allowing the greatest gain for the most players. These clinics are about building a “technique/skill base” that may be tough to start with, but help us improve longer term. We all learn and improve at different rates. If what you thought worked before or were told previously to do by an instructor doesn’t match with the new lessons, give it a chance to work. We take time to adjust our “muscle memory”, but with practice, most people benefit.
Here is the website link for sign up. Bring your paddles and smiles.
