Our annual Christmas Party is this Saturday at Bell. Social hour at 4:30, dinner at 5:30. Ticket sales have closed: none will be sold at the door. There are a couple of tickets available from members whose plans have changed. Contact me if interested.
We could use a little more help for set up that afternoon. Pat plans on being there about 12:30 to get the tables ready for the caterer – they will be set up, but will need to be decorated. You may have noticed that we are requesting food donations. These are for the Valley View Community Food Bank, which services Sun City. Please bring a non-perishable item to donate if you are able. Last sale date for Party tickets is today. Need to hear from you NOW if you’ve been procrastinating this long! We need some volunteers to help Dave Bergman with the lights and Pat with table decorations. Let us know if you’ll be available to help at 1:30 Saturday (maybe a little earlier if we’re lucky). If we have a good crew it’ll only take an hour or so.
We had a good crowd at “Couples Nite and Grab a Bite” last night. This weekly get together runs Friday evenings at 5 at Marinette from early October through mid April. There will not be a weekly reminder, but it is on the Club calendar. We started this event several years ago as a way for members and their significants to get to know each other beyond their mutual interests in PB. There is no set format for play, but the atmosphere is pretty relaxed. Several non players show up each week to watch, visit and enjoy a meal together. “Grab a Bite” usually starts between 6:30 and 7, and last night the monitor requested we depart at 8:50. Through November, and beginning again in March, dinner is a picnic on the south patio. From December through February we have Marinette Auditorium reserved on the first and third Fridays of each month so we may move our picnics there. The exception is the first Friday of 2017 when the Club has a Pot Luck scheduled there. On the other cooler weather Fridays we’ll play at 5 and head for local restaurants for dinner, possibly as one large group, or maybe as several smaller groups. Continue reading →
A Partially complete “Ladies Mock Tournament (2.5 and 3.0), 2016″ Album, has been added to the “2016 Photo Albums” on the Pickleball website. All Ladies Mock Tourney winner’s photos, and their action photos, are contained in this Album. The Ladies Mock Tourney Participant’s “action” photos, will be added, next.
Membership renewals are due by the end of the year. Please try to get yours done before the last minute. Peter reminds us to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS at the top of the form, print clearly and remember we need to see your wallet size RCSC card (not the key fob version) with your application. If you mail the renewal, enclose a copy of your card. You may also give it to a Board member BETWEEN games at the courts, or put your renewal in the mailbox behind the bulletin board at Marinette. DO NOT bother the monitors with this. Our membership forms are not their responsibility, and anything left at the front desk may or may not make it where you intended. It is rare that at least one Board Member is not at Marinette Mon/Wed/Fri morning and Tue evening, and either Karen or Daryl is usually at Mountain View at eight M/W/F.
Pat was able to get an extension from the caterer, so Christmas Party tickets will be available through Saturday. Most of you have heard this enough by now, but for our newer members: our Club Christmas Party will be December 3 at Bell. Social hour at 4:30, turkey dinner at 5:30, dancing about 6:30. Tickets are $10 and are available from Board Members. They are available at the courts as mentioned above.
The Mountain View courts will be open tomorrow from 8-5. Make sure you SIGN IN if you play! Someone at Lakeview was thoughtful enough to arrange for the courts to be open: if thirty of us play and only five sign in, the perception will be that there was really no point in opening, and it won’t happen next time. You are supposed to sign in or check in whenever you play, but tomorrow is especially important.
We still have few Christmas Party tickets available. Following is the sales pitch from Pat “Party Lady” Andrews:
“Time is running out for you to get your tickets to the Pickleball Christmas Party. The deadline for the count to be given to the caterer is Wednesday, November 23. You will eat well, talk, laugh, and dance the night away. Maybe someone will come up with the Pickleball Slide or something similar. Please get your ticket from one of the officers at the courts or call one of them if you don’t see them.”
Pat says she is trying to get an extension from the caterer to give the procrastinators more time, but that may or may not happen. $10 gets you a catered dinner from Sharkos, entertainment by a retired major market radio DJ (John Urzi, assisted by his wife Sharon), tremendous door prizes and the not to be missed Gloria Beck/Larry Klein pre dance show! Are you really going to miss this? Seriously, best party in SC! Ask around! Continue reading →
Everyone seemed to have a great time at the Ladies “Mock” Tournament earlier today. Congratulations to all who participated! It was supposed to be a fun learning experience, and we hope it was for all of you. Thanks to Phil and Carol Arinno for putting this on for us, and thanks to all the referees, many of whom were there from before 8 til well after 2.
There are still a few Christmas Party tickets available, but the caterer needs a final count next week, so the final sales will be Wednesday morning at 10. I’ll have tickets at Couples Night tonight, Ed and I will be at Marinette Monday morning, Karen will be at Mountain View Monday, Daryl will be at MV Monday and Wednesday and Gloria will be at Marinette Tuesday evening. Tickets, for members only, are $10 each and include a full turkey dinner catered by Sharkos, great entertainment, lots of door prizes and at least one special presentation. This will be the party of the season in Sun City! Don’t miss it!
Please remember to wear your name tag! It’s much easier to meet new people if they have name tags! And it’s much easier to remember names if there’s a name tag present!
There was an Onix paddle left at MV this afternoon. I have it and will bring it to M this evening. Email me with a brief description and we’ll make arrangements to get it to you.
The parking lots at Marinette are being resurfaced, and off site parking will be necessary at busy times. The streets behind the complex are easily accessible, and parking there does not involve crossing any busy streets. The western section is being completely torn up and resurfaced. Best guess on completion is next Wednesday. Work will then move to the southern section, but that may be getting only a reseal, so should only be restricted for a day or two.
Please check the newly redone website! Bill Booth has done a fantastic job with it, and Allen Gilson has spent many hours making photos available to us. While looking, please check the roster and make changes to your info if necessary. There are instructions on how to do so on the roster page.
While emails will remain part of Club communications for the foreseeable future, there will be more information available on the website. It will become increasingly your responsibility to go get that info, and less will be fed directly to you. Continue reading →

Everyone seemed to have a great time at the R,W&Blue Tournament yesterday! Between players and spectators we had over 100 people present. There was a computer glitch that put several people on two courts at the same time that slowed play a bit, but Roland and Nancy handled that smoothly! Please thank Roland Lefebvre, who ended up as the main man in this due to illness, and Nancy Harris, who jumped on board Tuesday afternoon, for a great job making this event happen! Also, please thank Pete Miceli and Bev Berger for taking care of the food for us. Thanks everyone! Great job! Continue reading →
