The club roster has been updated with all members that have been added through October 19. Members that joined after October 19 will be added to the list after the tournament. Please check your information for accuracy. Some of your own information can be edited by you. See the instructions for details. All members are encouraged to add an emergency contact. You may also add the name of your spouse or significant other.
Allen Gilson has uploaded photo albums of many past events. Links to the albums can be accessed by clicking here or on the Photos item of the menu. Stay tuned for more great photos by Allen.
Sign ups for the “C” ladder Tuesday afternoon are running a bit behind. If you wish to play in that one, you must sign up for it separately from the Monday ladders. You may check your name on the list at Marinette if you played last year, or use the sign up sheets posted if you will be new to this ladder. On line registration through the website will be available soon. [Editors note: Instructions for signing up online are on this ladder page.] Contact Ed with your questions with this form on the contact page.
Registration for both the Monday and Tuesday ladders for the first sessions November 7 and November 8 will end TOMORROW, October 31. Roland, who will be running the Tuesday ladder, has been and will be unavailable, so Ed will be running both for this first session. Sign ups will be considerably later next week.
As noted earlier parking at Marinette for the SHOOTOUT has been restricted. Please try to park on the streets or in the Congregational Church lot so our guests can use the Marinette parking.
The SHOOTOUT at SUN CITY is nearly upon us, running Tuesday through Thursday of next week at Marinette. Dave Breault and John King have done a fantastic job with volunteers, and we seem to be ready to roll! Thanks to Dave and John, and to all who have volunteered to help out! If you have a few spare hours next week, feel free to show up and ask if any additional help is needed. At any rate, plan to show up to watch! Many of our members will be playing, and your support is always greatly appreciated. Courts 5-8 will be available for open play all week, as will the Mountain View courts.
It’s getting to that time of year when the courts get crowded, so let’s all try to be a little extra courteous to our fellow Club members and RCSC cardholders. Court etiquette suggests that our entire group vacate the court after each game to allow a new group to move on. If no one does so, then go back on. Which courts are prime real estate will vary with the season, weather and time of day, so let’s plan on doing this regardless of where we are playing and what other courts may be available.
Part of court etiquette also involves guests. Our Bylaws , and RCSC regulations, state that a guest cannot displace a member or RCSC cardholder. This doesn’t mean they must rotate on and off – it means they can’t displace a cardholder, period! Guests are welcome, as always, but bringing them during prime time may not be a good idea. Please plan accordingly! The Club limit on guests, established by our Board, per Club Bylaws, is three at a time, but even that may be a push. Again, please use some common sense!
Karen will be at Mountain View Monday from 9 – 11 taking membership forms, Red, White and Blue entry forms, Mock Tournament entries and selling Christmas tickets. These events are all for members only, and tickets and forms will also be available at the Club table at the SHOOTOUT. Peter requests that we all make an effort to get our renewals in early – with this many members there will be a last minute rush no matter what! Your help will be appreciated.
You need to check out our new and vastly improved website! New players for the Monday ladders can now sign up on line, and this service will soon be available for many other Club functions. Take a look! And thank Bill Booth for his hard work on this – an upgrade has been in the talking stages for several years, but Bill has made it happen!
Great weather for pickleball! See you on the courts!
November 11, 3:00 pm. The purpose of this tournament is to have fun. Everyone who enters will be put on a team. The teams will consist of club members of all skill levels, however you will only play those of your own skill level. The points you score will be added to your team score at the end of each game. The games last for 15 minutes only and you play for the full time and do not stop at 11. You will play about 4 games with a 15 minute interval between each game. No one but you knows your score. Only the team score is posted after each round.
Entry forms at the courts. You can give forms and payment to Ed, Roland or Dave. Cost is $3 per person (members only). The club will provide sandwiches. Please bring your own beverage in a non-glass container. Entries will be limited to 88, based on first paid. Those still out of town may mail checks for $3 per, with name(s) and approximate skill level to Dave Sinclair at 18411 N 96th Dr. 85373.
Sign up for the Red, White and Blue Team Tournament on November 11 has begun. One of our members who had been planning to help has been unable to do so for health reasons, but we think it’s ready to go. There should be entry forms at the courts, and you can give forms and payment to Ed, Roland or me. Cost is $3 per person (members only). Entries will be limited to 88, based on first paid. Those still out of town may mail checks for $3 per, with name(s) and approximate skill level to me at 18411 N 96th Dr. 85373.
Sign up for the Ladies’ “Mock” Tournament Nov 18 is also underway. Entry fee is $20 per team, which includes lunch. Forms are at the courts, or email Phil at firstname.lastname@example.org. Again, this event has a limited number of slots, so you need to get your entry in soon!
Christmas Party tickets are available from all Board members except Peter, who has enough to do keeping things in order for us. We had 300 available when we started, but they are going quickly. Don’t procrastinate on this!
The new website, created by Bill Booth, is up and running. Take a look at it! We think you’ll be impressed. There is some tweaking to be done, but it’s going to be a great tool for all of us.
Those playing in the Monday ladders, please get signed up ASAP so Ed can begin getting them ready to roll. Just check your name off the sheets at Marinette if you played last season, or add your name to the list of new players. You may also contact Ed at email@example.com.
The LeMaster/Davison Classic, held here in April the past two seasons, has been eliminated from the 2017 schedule, and neither version will be held next year. The dates have been taken by the Wickenburg Club. We’ll look at planning some sort of Club Event over some part of that weekend. Suggestions Welcome!
Kevin Pates suffered a ruptured quad in play after the Rodeo Friday. It has been repaired, but the leg will be immobilized for several weeks and he faces some serious rehab. Kevin is now at the Forum at Desert Harbor for week of rehab before returning home. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org, and cell phone is 480-593-0576.
Everyone seemed to have a great time at the Rodeo yesterday afternoon! Looked like some of you discovered some skills you didn’t know you had, and some of us discovered we’re missing some we thought we did have! Please give Ed and Lynn Millett a big Thank You for arranging this for us – there is an incredible amount of prep work getting groupings organized! Ed even presented medals to the top three finishers in each group! They were:
first place Dee Ottiano
Second David Sinclair
Third. Sylvia Csabon
First Ron Mysel
Second Ed Everton
Third. Evelyn Widhalm
First. Lisa Vaugha
Second Sue Becker
Third. Dennis DeVault
First. Carol King
Second Allen Gilsonite
Third Julia Jones
The SHOOTOUT is only a week and a half away. Dave Breault and John King have been getting volunteers organized. If you signed up to volunteer check with them to be sure your plans and theirs coincide. This will be a fun tournament to watch, with several Club members participating, so come out and watch when you have a chance! Play will begin at 8 all three days (Nov 1-3) and will conclude late in the afternoons
The Christmas Party will be Dec 3 .at Bell. Tickets are available from Board members and are $10 each. We’re limited to 300 tickets, so don’t delay and be disappointed! Everyone who went last year had a great time, and there’s every reason to expect this year’s event to be even better!
Bill Booth has been redesigning our website for us. The new version will be coming soon and will actually look like something from 2016! The old version served us well, but it’s way past time for an upgrade. Much more information will be available to you, there will be a “Sign Up Genius” link for some activities, and it will be much easier to maintain and keep updated. We’ll let you know when the new version is up – it should be very soon.
Weather is great! Get on out and play!
The Rodeo/Skill Drills Fun Day will be tomorrow at 3 at Marinette. Entries were closed yesterday. Please plan to arrive about 2:30 so we can get the groups made up and be ready to start play at 3. Those who haven’t paid can do so at that time, and we’ll have Christmas Party tickets available as well as Cub caps and visors. We would appreciate those helping with the event arriving at 2:00.
The Club will supply pizza and ice, along with napkins and plates. Please bring your drink of choice. Adult drinks are OK, but please – NO GLASS CONTAINERS. Worn down sneakers and broken glass don’t go well together! Pizza will arrive about 5:30. There will be plenty of seating on the patios.
We have a busy stretch ahead:
A week from Sunday, Oct 30, our first reciprocal play match with Sun City West will take place at 1 at Marinette. Come out and watch some good play, and meet some new friends from SC West. Players are asked to bring snacks to share with our guests.
The “Red, White an Blue” Tournament is scheduled for Nov 11, at 3 at Marinette. You will be assigned to a team with a designated color to wear, and every effort is made to have the teams of equal ability. There will be some Novice, Intermediate and Advanced players on each team, and it really becomes a team event. Sign up sheets will be posted shortly.
The ‘Mock” Tournament will be Nov 18 at 8 at Mountain View. This one is for 2.0/ 2.5 and 3.0/ 3.5 Women. We anticipate one for Men and/or Mixed later in the season. Entry fee is $20 per team (lunch included) and you enter as a team. All matches will be refereed, and it will be as close as possible to a real tournament. Entry forms at Marinette, or contact Phil Arinno at email@example.com.
Come on out and join in these fun events!
